Association between paraoxonase-1 (PON-1) polymorphisms and polycystic ovary syndrome susceptibility: a meta-analysis

چکیده
Several investigations have focused on the relationship between paraoxonase-1 (PON-1) polymorphisms and the risk of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS); however, the result remains conflicting. To obtain a more precise estimation of the correlation between PON-1 polymorphisms [rs705379 C>T (-108C/T), rs854560 T>A (55Leu/ Met) and rs662 A>G (192Gln/Arg)] and the risk of PCOS, we performed a meta-analysis of 940 PCOS cases and 881 controls concerning rs705379 C>T polymorphism, 1,436 PCOS cases and 1,053 controls concerning rs854560 T>A polymorphism and 1,306 PCOS cases and 983 controls concerning rs662 A>G polymorphism from eight publications. The crude odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were harnessed to measure the strength of the association. Our findings suggested that there was an evidence of a correlation between the PON-1 rs705379 C>T polymorphism and increased risk of PCOS in three genetic models: allelic comparison, homozygote comparison and recessive comparison. While the association between PON-1 rs854560 T>A polymorphism and a decreased risk of PCOS was found in dominant model. PON-1 rs662 A>G polymorphism is not correlated with PCOS susceptibility. In summary, this study suggests that PON-1 rs705379 C>T polymorphism may cause an increased risk of PCOS, while PON-1 rs854560 T>A polymorphism may cause a decreased risk of PCOS.

Atherosclerosis is known as an inflammatory disease that can affect any vessel in the body. The occurrence of atherosclerosis in heart vessels is called coronary artery disease (CAD). CAD is one of the most significant causes of morbidity and mortality in developed countries. Different genetic and environmental factors can cause cardiovascular diseases, such as age, weight, sex, and low high-de...
متن کاملP-216: Common Polymorphisms of StAR Gene Are Not Associated with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome in Iranian Patients
Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common endocrine disorders, affecting 5-10% of reproductive aged women. High levels of androgen hormone can be accounted as the most important symptoms in PCOS. Androgen is the precursor of steroid biosynthesis in ovary. The transport of cholesterol to the inner mitochondrial membrane through StAR protein is also necessary for andr...
متن کاملAssociation of DENND1A Gene Polymorphisms with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome: A Meta-Analysis
OBJECTIVE The rs2479106 and rs10818854 polymorphisms in the DENND1A gene have been reported to be extensively associated with risk of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). However, the results from these studies remained inconclusive and conflicting. To detect a true association of rs2479106 and rs10818854 polymorphisms with PCOS risk, a single study may be underpowered, particularly for those stud...
متن کاملP-191: Association of STK11 Gene Polymorphisms with Methformin Treatment in Patients with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
Background: Metformin is an insulin sensitizing drug, which is co-administered with Clominophene citrate or gonadotropins in most cases of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), to improve ovulation. STK11 gene is necessary for action of metformin. Therefore the study of STK11 polymorphisms is important as pharmacogenetics aspects of metformin. The aim of our study was to investigate polymorphism of...

Background and Aim: Several investigations have evaluated the association of miR-146a rs2910164 and miR-27a rs895819 single-nucleotide polymorphisms with susceptibility to type 2 diabetes (T2D). However, the findings are conflicting and inconclusive. Therefore, this meta-analysis performed to investigate the association between these polymorphisms and T2D risk. Methods: Studies were identifie...
